How Important Is Medical History For Your Dentist

As far as your medical history is concerned, it is very important for you to ensure your dentist knows everything there is to know about your medical condition. This is the only way for them to ensure that the treatment they prescribe for your dental condition doesn't cause any clashes with other medicines you might be taking.

If you smoke or if you drink then it is very important for you to let your dentist know about it. If you want your dentist to give you the proper oral treatment then it is obvious that you will have to give him/her all the relevant information. And don't forget to tell your dentist about the dosage as this will affect their prescription as well. For example, you will most probably suffer from a dry mouth if you are taking the medicine required to treat gum problems. Given below are a few of the other problems which it is recommended that you let your dentist know about before they prescribe any treatments?

1. Osteoporosis- You will have to let your dentist know about any osteoporosis treating medication which you may be taking. The main reason for this is because it is known to cause trouble with a person's jaw. And let’s not forget, you may also lose a few teeth during this time.

2. Pregnancy- When you are pregnant, going to the dentist can end up causing quite a few complications. In fact, it is recommended that you postpone your dentist appointments as much as you can while you are pregnant.

3. Diabetes- If you are suffering from diabetes then it is understood that you will have a very low resistance to infections. This will make you an easy target for periodontal disease as well. If your diabetes hasn't been diagnosed yet then you may experience uncontrollable thirst or appetite. If you are a woman, you may experience increase urination as well.

4. Blood pressure medication- If you are taking medication for high blood pressure then it is most probably going to affect your oral medication. If you are taking any medication for kidney, lung, heart or liver problems, then you should let your dentist know about it before they prescribe any medication.

5. Smoking, drinking or allergies- Depending on what you are consuming and how often you consume it, it may interfere with your oral medication as well.

That's why it is very important for you to let your dentist know anything and everything that you may be taking or suffering from.
